Ever since he was a puppy, Ollie falls asleep the minute he gets in the car and we hit the road. It must be the hum of the tires and the speaker mount on the door tuned to NPR. Usually he settles into the sunny spot in the back seat, but after our busy afternoon in Indianapolis this week, he chose the fuzzy blanket instead.

Ollie is ready to pack up his moving boxes and head back to Indianapolis. We drove down this week for a visit and Ollie had no trouble finding his way through our old neighborhood and walking right up to our old doorstep.
The neighborhood really was a great place for walks, shopping, and people watching!

Last month, Joe stumbled upon a breeder who had puppies available, including this pitifully cute guy pictured above. The problem? He would have to be flown to NYC from Pennsylvania. And flights are not cheap, even for puppies. Add that to the cost of the dog itself and it was a little more than we were willing to spend, especially before we were set to leave on a week-long trip to Europe. (Yay for stimulus checks! Boo for them not being enough to cover a trip AND a puppy.)
So, now we’re back from our trip, and it just so happens the potential puppy is still up for grabs. Joe’s trying to work some magic on the breeder to get the price down, but either way, I hope the little mister finds a good home!
After spying a bowl of pet treats set out at our local video store (“for canine customers”), Joe and I had the grand idea that lottery tickets from the corner bodega were THE way to raise puppy funds.
You read about one doorman winning five million and think you’re next… Alas, Lucky Streak only put me back at square one with a $1.00 prize. Maybe next time; hang in there Huey!

We got lucky that Ollie was never a big chewer. Sure, he destroyed some blankets and pillows, but he never chewed the legs off of furniture like my sister-in-laws dog did.

Today is Oliver’s 2nd birthday, and while I thought about getting him beautiful Tahitian pearls, that would be more along the lines of what I would want for my birthday, so I settled for giving him a bag of bones and a piece of steak for dinner. He’s going to be very disappointed tomorrow morning when he gets his usual breakfast kibble and not fillet, that’s for sure.

A real dog to fit these teeny tiny tees! Puppy (my #1 bud since approximately 1985) is currently being a great sport and trying to fill the pet void in my life, but he simply cannot keep this charade up forever!
I NEED A DOG. Preferably a miniature, short-hair dachshund named Huey. Or maybe Pip.
There will be a new hot dog in the city very soon.
Another day, another dip in the pool. The only problem is that Ollie has gotten so intrigued with splashing that anyone within 50 feet needs to be wearing swimsuits, because they get drenched.

Ollie had a visitor today. My parents were out of town, so Mike picked up Floyd from the kennel early and brought him to our house. They played and chewed bones all afternoon, then cranked the air conditioning compressor and took a nap together.
