The American Dream

corrin | Arf | Wednesday, 30 July 2008

Ollie might be packing up his bones and bowls soon, because we talked to some mortgage lenders and got pre-approved for a home loan this week!

Of course, we’re looking for homes with a fenced in yard and nice sidewalks to take our evening stroll, so it’s really an upgrade for all of us. There also might be a friend in it for Ollie if we find a house large enough with a comfortable lawn.

Chases Tail

Ollie doesn’t have the necessary umm…equipment to get a girlfriend, although he does have fabulous skin thanks to top rated acne products, but it is funny to see him run around in his t-shirt that says “Chases Tail.”

Thanks, Target Dollar Spot!

Personal Space

corrin | Pictures | Sunday, 27 July 2008

Ollie needs to do some serious reasearch on the topic of personal space, maybe read a few books, because he was all up in mine this morning.

Although, it’s mostly my fault, since I let him lay on my chest and nuzzle under my chin as I watch the Sunday Morning News. It’s our weekend ritual!

Scary Dog

corrin | Arf | Saturday, 26 July 2008

Should I be worried that an unneutered, and seemingly aggressive, rotweiler wearing a choke chain moved in next door or should I be worried that the dog is owned by a very small woman that has to hold on to the leash with two hands when attempting to control the dog? Either way, I wish she would look for jobs in San Francisco and not in my neighborhood. Scary!

Don’t poop in my lawn

corrin | Arf | Saturday, 26 July 2008

Not to blow my cover, but I had to send an anonymous email to our apartment management today concerning the new pet-owning residence in our community that don’t deem it necessary to properly dispose of their furry friend’s waste. Industrial steam cleaners couldn’t begin to tackle the mess in the front lawn.

Maybe it’s because I started my pet-ownership while living downtown, but it’s common courtesy to pick up after your dog. I don’t know what is worse; people knowing they should clean up after their pets and choosing to ignore the rules, or being completely oblivious.

Roll Over

corrin | Pictures | Saturday, 26 July 2008

It took a lot of practice, a bag of treats, and empty promises of Vegas vacations, but Mike taught Ollie to roll-over while I was at work yesterday. He even video taped Ollie’s new trick as proof, just in case Ollie didn’t want to perform when I got home.

This means we have four tricks in our repertoire! Sit, lay, side, roll. Noticeably absent are stay and come.

The Babydoll Test

Oliver likes to show people that he loves them by molesting their faces, and while he means well, I’m afraid that he may smoother a poor, defenseless child, should we ever decide to have one.

We’ve attempted to break him of the habit, but it is quite endearing. Maybe we should see how he reacts around babydolls before we decide to have kids. Because if Ollie doesn’t like babies, there will be none in this house!

Trespasser!

corrin | Arf | Thursday, 24 July 2008

I had to call and raise hell with the apartment manager yesterday.

I came home to a note on the door that maintenance had been inside to fix an AC leak that was causing a drip in the apartment below, which is fine…if they had called first.

Ollie is very protective and I wouldn’t put it past him to sneak out the front door if left open. I was assured that management always calls before they enter the apartment, yet this is the second time in six months I’ve come home to a notice on the door with no warning. The first time, they replaced the dish washer, which meant the door was open for an extended period of time to get the old one out and bring the new one in.

I would be heart broken if he got out the front door when someone wasn’t looking, and I’d be even more heart broken if he ever bit someone and we were forced to put him down. And if memory serves me correctly, it is illegal for them to enter the apartment without first calling, unless there is an emergency situation.

There will be a follow-up letter to management on this, accompanied by a picture of Ollie.

Whine Cry Whine – Time to get up!

corrin | Arf | Thursday, 24 July 2008

Ollie has gotten into the habit of waking me up anywhere from a half hour to an hour before my alarm goes off because he has to go outside. That’s between 5:30 and 6:00 am. He wakes me up by performing a series of pitiful cries and whines right in my ear. He may as well be tickling my nose with ostrich feathers. It’s that annoying.

I appreciate that he’s taken to waking me up to tell me that he has to go outside, but why during my last blissful hour of sleep? When we come back inside, he goes right back to bed, and I’m stuck poking around for 15 minutes to a half hour before I have to get in the shower.

I think I’m going to start waking him up at night when I get up to pee.

Dachshund Bath

corrin | Arf | Wednesday, 23 July 2008

The two dogs in this video, Reggie and Rudie, look and act exactly like Ollie and Floyd. Ollie stands around and watches calmly while Floyd goes crazy for water, whether it comes out of Grohe faucets or garden hoses. Floyd loves water so much, my parents buy him a baby pool every summer, and he stands in it and waits for someone to fill it up!
