Sammy Davis the Dachshund

In 2003, Patrick Major had been suffering through dialysis for five years and was so depressed that he admits contemplating suicide. During that time, Patrick and his girlfriend decided to get a puppy.

Not just any puppy. A dachshund puppy!

Sammy Davis the dachshund gave Patrick the motivation to get off the couch and focus on enjoying life. Sammy has won numerous awards for racing and Frisbee, and Sammy and Patrick now travel the country participating in competition and entertaining crowds.

I love the story of Sammy and Patrick. Sammy looks so much like Ollie!

Ollie always knows when someone in the house is feeling under the weather and I saw my parent’s dachshund stick by my grandma’s side when she had cancer, so I know dogs have the ability to sense when they are needed most.

Dachshund U.N.

A meeting of the U.N. Commission on Human Rights took place in the Melbourne Museum plaza in Australia last week.

All 47 delegates were eager to start discussions.

They will be gathering for the next two Saturdays to continue their talks.

Okay, okay. These little guys aren’t in town for official United Nations business.

Dachshund U.N. is an installation piece by Australian artist Bennett Miller who chose dachshunds because:

They have their own racial diversity – black, brown, red. Also, even though they’re restricted in their movement, they are quite determined and proud

Miller goes on to explain that the installation serves as a “meditation on the utopian aspirations of the Commission on Human Rights.”

Perhaps someone who isn’t obsessed with wiener dogs can decipher that for me, because I’m a little distracted by all the cuteness at the moment.

Cats vs. Dogs

Corrin | Arf | Sunday, 16 May 2010

I think that people are clearly dog-people or cat-people. There’s no middle ground in my book.

I also think it’s abundantly obvious where my family’s loyalty lies (although not so obvious may be my belief that cats are pure evil).

Wet Sloppy Kisses

Corrin | Pictures | Tuesday, 11 May 2010

Does your dog get right in your face to give kisses? Covering you with slobber and smearing your eyeglasses?

Oh.

You mean this isn’t the standard wiener dog greeting in your family?

Me and Huey (my sister’s dog)

Well, it’s a good thing I buy my glasses from Zenni Optical. Thanks to their low prices and excellent quality, I always have a spare pair of eyeglasses around to switch when one pair gets covered in puppy kisses.

If you aren’t familiar with Zenni Optical, they offer single vision lenses with frames starting at just $8. If your prescription is a little more complicated, Zenni offers bifocals, progressives, and other options to make sure your vision is crystal clear.

So, if you wear glasses, be prepared for wet, sloppy, wiener dog kisses when you visit our house with an extra pair of glasses from Zenni Optical.

You’ll thank me when you’re covered in slobber.
