Happy Hallowiener!

Corrin | A Day in The Life,Toys & Treats | Sunday, 31 October 2010

(I’m kind of obligated to use that title, right?)

I couldn’t resist poking a little fun at wiener dogs this Halloween and dressing Ollie up as an animal that’s as tall as he is long. He was a good sport and looked absolutely adorable, as always.

Channeling his inner giraffe

This year, I ordered Ollie’s giraffe costume from Wayfair. They have a great selection of costumes that I haven’t seen in stores and my order arrived just a few days after placing it. I order from Wayfair all the time, and I definitely recommend checking them out no matter what you’re looking to buy.

We’re off to pass out candy!

Zoot Luxury Pet Boarding

Corrin | A Day in The Life,Around Town | Tuesday, 26 October 2010

Since moving to Austin, we’ve had a difficult time finding boarding for Ollie. I gave in and scheduled the $44 pet evaluation at one facility, only to immediately walk out once I saw all the dogs penned outside with no supervision.

After Ollie’s last stay at another pet hotel, I found a tick on his chest, he had diarrhea for a week, and has since been very nervous whenever we get in the car with his overnight bag. While I don’t think he was mistreated, I do think the daily routine was too far removed from what he’s used to.zoot logo

Not surprisingly, my stomach was in knots when I made a trip home last week and left Ollie at a new boarding facility, but I am so thrilled to share what a wonderful experience we had at Zoot Luxury Boarding.

I did my research beforehand, and Zoot had the highest rating on every review website I could find. I sent out a Tweet and several Austinites responded with nothing but rave reviews. When I called to schedule, they were so warm yet professional that I never second guessed our reservations.

Zoot is an absolutely beautiful facility that looks exactly like the photos on their website. In addition to boarding, Zoot is a fully staffed pet hospital, which helps put my mind at ease when boarding Ollie for an extended time.

Since this was our first visit to Zoot, I was given a full tour and was allowed to settle Ollie into his room with his own toys and blankets. The staff offered to keep an extra close eye on him and said they would call if they felt he needed any extra one-on-one time and that I was welcome to call and check-in anytime.

Ollie’s room was definitely luxurious and included a comfy pet cot and a doggie door leading to a covered outdoor patio. Each day of boarding Ollie was treated to outdoor play time, fed his own food on his regular schedule, and given lots of attention by the staff.

Dogs that stay over two nights are given a complementary bath before heading home. Ollie was picked up a little earlier than anticipated so they didn’t have time for a bath, but we were given a pass for a day of doggie daycare, which we will definitely be putting to use.

Ollie was excited to see us, but was calm and exhausted from all the play time and didn’t waste any time settling into a nap on the car ride home.

I love that we were sent home with a report card and that Zoot takes the time to list exactly who took care of Ollie during his stay. It makes me happy to see that he enjoyed group play time (he’s so protective when we’re around) and showed the staff the same love he shows us.

It’s such a relief to find a facility of Zoot’s caliber in Austin and know that we can board Ollie somewhere he enjoys and we don’t have to worry about his care whenever we leave town.

If you’re in Austin, we couldn’t recommend Zoot more highly. Make sure to check out their website, because they cater to all kinds of pets!

This is not a sponsored review. We found Zoot through our own research, paid for Ollie’s boarding in full, and wanted to share our experience. Please see our site policy with any questions.

A Bad Habit

Corrin | Toys & Treats,Wieners Everywhere | Saturday, 23 October 2010

I have a bad habit of buying baby clothes. Especially baby clothes featuring a weiner dog. I’m powerless to resist the cuteness of tiny baby clothes combined with dachshunds.

Did I mention I don’t have any kids?

I snapped a picture of this cute little holiday outfit at Target the other day and sent it to my husband, who replied “I’m assuming you bought it?”

And can you believe that I didn’t buy it? The one time I resist! I think I might have to pick it up the next time I’m out.

Crazy Weiner Dog Lady

Corrin | Wieners Everywhere | Thursday, 21 October 2010

I love when companies use dachshunds in their advertising. There’s nothing cuter or funnier, and a touch of “crazy weiner dog lady” is always charming.

Preventing Joint & Back Problems in Dachshunds

Corrin | Pet News & Info | Monday, 18 October 2010

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Marvelous Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

Ollie is a miniature dachshund. Dachshunds are known for being longer than they are tall, burrowing into any available blanket, launching themselves off of furniture, and hip and back problems.

That last trait is troubling, but there are things you can do to prevent back problems in dachshunds. Making sure to use doggie stairs next to furniture, keeping their weight under control, minimizing play that puts unnecessary strain on their backs, such as tug-of-war, and adding Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM for dogs to their diets is a good start.

Glucosamine chondroitin naturally occurs in cartilage and has been used as a supplement for humans, horses, dogs, and other animals to help rebuild cartilage and ease symptoms such as joint pain and stiffness. More specifically, Osteo-Pet Total Joint Care Formula contains glucosamine chondroitin as well as MSM, boswellia, hyaluronic, and green lipped mussels, all of which stimulate cartilage and connective tissue growth in dogs.

I know that I want Ollie around for as long as possible, living an active and pain-free life, so we supplement his diet with glucosamine chondroitin, and have since he was a puppy, on the recommendation of our vet.

If your dog is suffering from, or is prone to, joint problems, and you and your vet determine that a supplement is the appropriate treatment, use coupon code OsteoPet11 for 10% off Osteo-Pet Value Size Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM for dogs. That's two bottles of Osteo-Pet Total Joint Care Formula for less than $35!
