Bunches of Fun

Corrin | A Day in The Life | Monday, 31 October 2011

We hope you have bunches of fun this Halloween!

And if you’re dressing up your pet this Halloween, make sure to watch a word to all you pets about Halloween. Many treats were given to snap these pictures.

Worried Sick

Corrin | A Day in The Life | Tuesday, 25 October 2011

On Sunday night, I went to the World Series and Ollie went to Zoot, his favorite dog hotel.

Unfortunately, my team lost and Ollie worried himself sick.

So sick, in fact, that I had to take him to the vet first thing this morning and work from home today. He’s had the scoots for going on 24 hours and has licked the underside of his tail raw. I’ve been washing blankets and towels all day and narrowly escaped having to get the upholstery of my car steam cleaned.

Here’s to hoping for a vast improvement in the next 15 hours, because my heart can’t take much more sick puppy (and I’m out of PTO).

My dog is stressed out

Corrin | A Day in The Life | Monday, 17 October 2011

I’m slowing figuring out Ollie’s peeing problem thanks to my friend Kristin (who tweets at @DREAMRescue) who told me that peeing on food bowls is a classic anxiety symptom and that she has a dachshund that does the same thing every time a new foster dog comes into their home. My stress level has gone up these past few weeks and my (soon-to-be) ex-husband has moved out, and even though Ollie is acting normal in every other way, I think he’s picked up on my anxiety.

I’ve stressed my dog out and I feel terrible about it.

Lots of exercise, snuggles, and special treats were recommended (for both of us) and we’ve only had one accident since the original blog post, which is encouraging. Here’s what else I know:

  • He only does it at night – not when I’m gone at work during the day.
  • He only does it when one of his food or water bowls is empty.
  • He only does it after something in the night riles him – neighbors, car alarm, etc.
  • A morning and evening walk, plus 20 solid minutes of tricks, tug, and fetch, is the minimum amount of activity required for him to collapse in a heap.

A very special treat – I never buy Ollie processed treats but he loves them.

We Have a Problem

Corrin | A Day in The Life | Thursday, 06 October 2011

By “we” I mean Oliver.

And by “problem” I mean peeing on his food and water bowls.

This morning was the third time in the past month that I’ve woken up to find the area around Ollie’s food and water bowl swimming in pee. I actually had to empty pee out of his water bowl. That’s just not right.

He’s healthy, well-behaved, and goes outside on a schedule. He gets plenty of exercise and attention. He’s not “acting out” in any other ways.

Has anyone else had a dog do this? I thought that dogs typically won’t mess where they eat or sleep?

Help!

When he’s not busy peeing in the house he’s the cutest darn thing.
