Does your pet have a treat that they absolutely go crazy for? Something extra special that they only get once in a while that sends them running circles through the house?

For Ollie, that special treat is spaghetti. He completely loses his minds when he gets a whiff. In fact, all the dogs in our family love spaghetti, which we’ll take as a compliment.

Of course, I had to take the opportunity to make him do a few tricks, but in the end he enjoyed a giant bowl of spaghetti and a good nap. That’s a good day for a dachshund.

While on a walk earlier this week, Ollie discovered the wonder that is the sprinkler. He likes to stand just a few steps down-wind so that he gets a nice cool mist instead of a full-on soaking.

Pretty smart, if you ask me.

My husband took this (rather dizzying) video of Ollie enjoying a sprinkler break – which lead to a bath as soon as they got back inside because a walk on a warm day plus a romp through the sprinkler makes for a particularly stinky wiener dog.

After dinner tonight, we did something we never do. I’m not being dramatic when I say that, either. We have never once made sundaes, but tonight the urge overcame us! Complete with warm chocolate chip cookies and whipped cream!

Of course, we wouldn’t dream of leaving Ollie out of our desert feast. Turns out he really likes whipped cream.

Did you hear that whimper when I asked if he was ready for some whipped cream? He knows something good when he sees it.

Part of Ollie’s weekly routine is a bath. It’s more than a bath, though. It’s puppy pampering. Ollie’s weekly beauty routine includes a thorough scrub down (complete with full body massage), towel dry (fresh out of the dryer, of course), ear cleaning, teeth brushing (meat flavored), a generous spritz of Stud Muffin Pooch Scents (for the bitches), and a few laps around the living room to help dry off.

Ollie has always had a love/hate relationship with water.

When he was a puppy, he squealed like a piglet from start to finish of every bath for the first 6 months of his life. Now, he sits and enjoys the scrub-down.

He absolutely will not go in a kiddie pool or play in the garden hose spray.

Today, after two months of coaxing, shivering in paw-deep water, and lots and lots of treats, we finally got Ollie to swim in the creek where we take our walks! He swims straight to shore, but he does swim.

I predict he’ll be diving into the water in two weeks…or whenever the temperature reaches 100 degrees.
